Indoor Tennis @ PSU

The Booster Club has announced that they will sponser an indoor court at the Penn State Tennis Center this winter. Starting on November 1, the team will have 1 court every Monday night from 7-8:30PM and on occassional Thursday nights from 8:30-9:30PM . On Monday nights, each player will be required to bring $4.50 to pay for the additional 1/2 hour of time we have secured this year. The booster club has pre-paid for the first hour of play. All players are expected to stay the entire time! I will post a list of players expected to attend. 4 players will be chosen to attend each session. If a player can not attend on the date listed, they are required to get a sub. If you DON'T get a sub for yourself, you will forfiet your next opportunity to attend. Players are expected to arrive at the tennis center 15 minutes before your start time to stretch and loosen up. A player from each group will be designated to send an e-mail follow-up/report to coaches on attendance and a brief practice report. It is important that players understand how lucky we are to have this opportunity. Parents, please remind your girls that they need to keep chatting to a minimum!!! This time is reserved for serious play ONLY! Coaches will not be on site. Please play doubles matches and also work on two up, two back type games. Ball baskets will be available at the tennis center for serving, but please bring your own balls for match play.

Greeting All,

Some final thoughts as the season has come to a close:

First: The banquet was outstanding!! What a great way to close out a wonderful season. Everyone did a great job. Laura the video was wonderful!

Second: I want to thank everyone for their help and support to the Booster Club this year. IT WAS A TOTAL TEAM EFFORT.

Third: If the Booster Club owes you anything, please get your receipts to Steve Newburg as soon as possible.

Fourth: The votes were counted and Lori Maxfield is President, Kathy DiMuccio is Vice President, and Cindy Carpenter is Treasurer. Please give the new officers the same support that you showed me.

Thanks again to everyone for a wonderful season. It was my pleasure to serve as Booster Club President.

Summer Tennis Ladder #11

See ladder #11 below. I have included results from matches played during the PSU Tennis Tournament held last weekend. Congratulations to all who participated! If your results against a State High player are not included, please send an e-mail. Please continue to play matches this week. Try-outs start in 7 days!! Players can play as many matches as they want in a 7 day period, but should try to play at least once. You can play anyone on the ladder within 6-8 spots. This will make it easier to find people available to play as some players are out of town on holiday. Matches will be 2 out of 3 sets, regular scoring. Players that don't play on a regular basis will be moved down.

Many of you have challenged yourselves and played several matches. Great job! Please continue to work hard and to play more matches. This WILL pay off in the fall. If you have not played 3-4 matches by this time, you are missing a great opportunity! Waiting until August to play official challenges matches may prove to be a big mistake for some of you. Use this opportunity to play your teammates now to learn how to play the game and to win matches, so you are prepared for challenge matches in August. Please remember that I will not refer to this list during try-outs when arranging challenge match-ups. Your position for those match-ups will be earned during the first 2-3 days of try-outs and evaluations. Playing these matches will only help with your preparation for team try-outs.
Matches can be played at any courts in the area. Summer tournament matches will count for ladder play. Please send scores to Coach Borden or Coach Gibbins via e-mail within 24 hours of match completion. Players that know that they will be out of town for extended periods of time, should contact a coach. Incoming freshmen and new players, if you would like to be included in the ladder list, please contact Coach B. If you have a result that is not posted, please e-mail Coach Gibbins.
