The State College girls' tennis team was in dominant form Wednesday as the Lady Little Lions lost just one game in seven matches, coming away with a 7-0 shutout over Tyrone.
Corinne Jones, Katy Borden, Kelly McGill, Sara Snell and Anne Berkey each won their singles' matches by a score of 6-0, 6-0.
The double's team of Maria DiMuccio and Jill Bontrager won their match 6-0, 6-0 and Chelsea Mooney and Jess Cieply won 6-0, 6-1.

Jessica Cieply and Abbie Swaboda defeated Sara Betz and Allison Schwertner for the deciding match as State College beat West Chester East in girls' tennis on Friday.
"This was a big win for the girls," State College coach Jane Borden said. "The team showed a lot of heart. When it came down to the end, they played pretty smart tennis. I'm really proud of them."
With each school winning three matches, Cieply and Swaboda beat Betz and Schwertner in three sets, 7-6 (8), 6-7 (8) and 6-3.
State College's Corinne Jones and Katy Borden won in straight sets in their singles matches. Sara Snell and Chelsea Mooney also won a doubles match, beating Jess Jani and Alicia Martin.

The Girls played some great tennis. Kelly McGill won her #3 singles flight and Katy Borden finished 2nd at #2. These were nice accomplishments. In addition, Corinne Jones played remarkably well at #1 and our doubles teams had some positive results. For the most part, the girls had a successful weekend.

Four singles wins and another in doubles helped State College finish first in its invitational tournament Saturday.
Alexa Gregory, Corinne Jones, Kelly McGill and Sara Snell all took singles wins while Gregory and Katy Borden won the first doubles title. The Lady Little Lions finished with 20 points, ahead of Mercyhurst Prep's 16, Hollidaysburg's 12 and Downingtown's six.
Gregory won at first singles, Jones dropped Mercyhurst's Rebecca Haener at second singles, McGill won at fourth singles and Sara Snell captured fifth singles.
Gregory and Borden added a first doubles win while Jessica Cieply and Kelly Newburg fell in the third doubles final.

State College used a strong team performance in singles play to get past Hollidaysburg 5-2 Wednesday. State College (7-1) swept its five singles matches, led by Alexa Gregory at No. 1 singles, ousting Brittany Dwyer 6-1, 6-1. Corinne Jones toppled Kristin Sipes 6-0, 6-1 and Katy Borden moved past Natalie Kahlouf 6-4, 6-2. Kelly McGill and Sara Snell also earned wins for the Lady Little Lions in straight sets. Hollidaysburg swept both doubles matches. "This was a nice win for the girls," said State College coach Jane Borden. "They are playing well and should go into our match against Altoona with a lot of confidence."

State College's duo of Katy Borden and Alexa Gregory advanced to the District 6 AAA doubles championship after defeating Altoona's Vanessa Schmitt and Rachel Diviney 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Down 3-1 in the first set, the second-seeded Borden and Gregory fought back to win the next 10 games to take control of the match. The duo also knocked off Hollidaysburg's Alex Davies and Natalie Khalouf 6-3, 6-1.
"Borden and Gregory play extremely well at times, and came through with some bigs wins," Lady Little Lions coach Jane Borden said.
State College's Jill Bontrager and Sara Snell fell in the quarterfinals, losing to Central Mountain's Emily Williams and Brittany Bauman 6-2, 6-2 .
State College's Alexa Gregory and Katy Borden won nine straight games against Kristen Messer and McKenna Dixon of Altoona to win the District 6 Class AAA Doubles Championship on Saturday. The scores were 6-3, 6-0.
"Today, Katy and Alexa played like champions," State College coach Jane Borden said. "They really benefited by having to play two tough teams (on Friday), so today they were ready to play."

State College advanced to the District 6 Class AAA final by defeating Hollidaysburg 5-0 in Monday's opening round of the district team tournament.
Alexa Gregory, Corinne Jones and Katy Borden combined to drop eight games on their way to winning singles matches in straight sets. Gregory defeated Brittany Dwyer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
The Lady Little Lions received doubles victories from the teams of Kelly McGill and Anne Berkey and Sara Snell and Jill Bontrager.
"The girls took care of business," State College coach Jane Borden said. "Katy, Alexa and Corinne set the tone in singles and the doubles followed their lead. The doubles teams showed me good stuff."

Altoona's top singles players came out strong, got off to a good start, and simply out played us. With Katy Borden and the #2 Doubles Team of Sara Snell and Jill Bontrager winning ther matches, the match was called after Altoona won the deciding 3rd Match. The girls had a great season and shouldn't lose sight of that.
